James Marsters Talks about Spike - Wizard World St. Louis 2017

James talks about playing Spike, hair dye, and Spike's intelligence level. So sorry for the movement from time to time. My hands were killing me.

Another thing that might be playing a role here is that Spike's smartness/dumbness varied with the needs of the episode. For example, Spike had one of those "penny drop" moments in the Yoko Factor (or the next episode) where in the DVD commentary the writers admitted they'd written themselves into a corner with the separation of the Scoobies and they let Spike take the blame for it. Of course this kind of thing happened with other characters too.

Hmmm, really not sure sometimes how well James' remembers the different characteristics of the character or the plots. Yeah Spike could make impulsive/impatient decisions and not think things through, but in contrast he was also regularly perceptive, clearly educated and capable too. So I was amused by seeing James flounder a little as he thought of what he'd just said and seem to try to step it back a little. I mean, subjective interpretation aside, despite some of the cast doing a lot of the cons etc., it is soooo long since they played the roles it isn't suprising really.
