WOW - Veiriti -  Thanks Much

I think these are a great way to do discussions for the episodes - give us an added perspective.  I am always amazed at how this process really works vs what the audience sees in the final product.   I have a few of deleted scenes text that Euphoria posted at BSV -

POTENTIAL

INT. VAMP NEST - NIGHT

Buffy punches the vamp off her as the Potentials watch. Spike, unseen by the group, slowly steps back, away from the group - toward the door. Buffy keeps fighting until she's fought herself into position right next to the crypt door.

BUFFY
You're dead. So what do you know?
Right now, the only thing you know
for sure is, you've got me.

And with that, Buffy DROPS HER STAKE and vanishes, out the door and gone. The Potentials, dumbstruck, watch her go. As does the vamp.

The doors LOCK shut behind Buffy with an echoing metallic CLANG. Beat. The vamp looks at the Potentials. They cluster together, looking shit-scared.

And he ATTACKS.

EXT. VAMP NEST - NIGHT

Outside the crypt. Buffy joins Spike, who's been waiting outside. She pauses, hearing the sounds of a terrible fight coming from within the crypt. She hesitates, wanting to go back in. She places her hand on the crypt door's knob.

Spike places his hand atop hers, stopping Buffy from re- entering.

They stay, listening to the fighting sounds escalate.

Oh I'm sorry! I completely forgot about this.. I'll post the rest that I have saved on my computer and then I'll go hunting for more And sure, I'll post em at Buffytube

BUFFY
And the principal.

GILES
What?

BUFFY
Oh, nothing much, just, he was in the
school basement with a shovel, acting
kind of evasive. And he's got a "too
charming to be real" thing going on.
I'm gonna look into it.

GILES
Well, that sounds very responsible of
you. Balances out the vampire-on-the-
loose issue.

BUFFY
Nothing's really changed, Giles.
Spike had a chip before, remember?
When The First made him kill and sire
those people?

GILES
We have no way of knowing if his chip
was functioning then. A new chip
might be able to restrain him should
The First attempt to activate him
again.

BUFFY
It doesn't matter. The girls aren't
in danger from him. He wouldn't let
that happen. I trust him.

GILES
Well, of course you trust Spike. He
has slaughtered thousands, and
therefore probably knows all about
how not to do it.

BUFFY
He has a soul now, Giles. That's
what's going to keep him from hurting
anyone. I'm going to trust that
before I trust some chip we already
know can go bad on him.

GILES
Buffy...

BUFFY
He can be a good man, Giles. I feel
it. But he's never going to get
there if we never give him a chance.

Giles hesitates, not sure if he wants to get into this conversation:

GILES
I want better for you.
(off her look)
Your feelings for him are coloring
your judgment. I hear it in your
voice. That way lies a future with
a great deal of pain. I don't want
that for you.

BUFFY
Giles, if you're saying there are
sparks between him and me, you're
wrong. Spike and I haven't-- things
are different since he came back.
Just look in his eyes and you'll see
he's changed. There's... there's a
person in there now.

GILES
I see what's happening. It doesn't
matter anymore if you're... if you're
physical with each other. There's a
connection there. You rely on him
and he relies on you. That's what's
affecting your judgement.

BUFFY
You think I'm losing sight of the big
picture. But I'm not. When Spike
had that chip in him it was like,
like having him in a muzzle or
something. It feels wrong. We can't
beat evil by doing evil. I know that.

Buffy turns to head out.

GILES
(called after)
I hope you're right. You're gambling
with a lot of lives.

BUFFY keeps moving, heads into the kitchen, pours coffee. (A new microwave, still in its box, sits on the counter.) Then:

BUFFY
(convincing herself)
My judgment is clear.

She drinks some coffee. Even more convincing:

BUFFY (cont'd)
Absolutely no sparks.

Beneath You.

SPIKE

Right you are, Love. I havent changed, Not a lick.

He saunters forward, daring Buffy to hit him.

SPIKE
Not a slap, not a tickle, not one juicy bit. Im the same, baby, head to toe, the man you loved and hated, slept with and moaned over. And watching your face trying to figure me out was absolutely delicious.

Hes gotten close enough. Buffy backhands him with a closed fist, whipping his head sideways. And he comes right back.

SPIKE
Love the taste.

*Blah blah blah, Xander gets Buffy to go protect Nancy against her giant worm ex, blah*.

Buffy exits, Spike follows her.

SPIKE
Is that it!?! A little touchy feely and then youre off to the batpoles?

Anya, back in human face, watches Spike, appalled. Xander stands beside her. Spike saunters past, styling..

SPIKE
Well what the hell. I want to play too..

He grabs a drink off a nearby table without looking, downs it, grins at Anya - and rushes out, following Buffy.

SPIKE
Beautiful night..

Buffy | 7x22 "Chosen":

Excerpt from shooting script:

BUFFY
Angel said… this amulet is meant to
be worn by a champion.

A beat, as he deflates. Then Buffy holds it out to him, and he understands her meaning. Slowly takes it.

Been called a lot of things in my
time…

BUFFY
I want you to be careful.

SPIKE
You’re talking to the wrong guy, love.
(feeling it)
This is powerful.

Here is a site I found with a bunch of dailies and outtakes -

http://www.metacafe.com/videos_about/buffy_the_vampire_slayer_dailies/

Boy  - these two are so great together -  I love JM voice in the "Dead Things" opening scene - his deep voice such a great contrast to the higher voice that SMG has.  Looks like she gave her voice a little bit "higher quality" in one part.

These all take on an added poignancy post BS8 - I can't help feeling that Buffy and Spike missed a great potential love - but they were both emotionally damaged people, Spike because he could love with such great capacity and Buffy could she could not love back from having closed down emotionally so much after Angel and Riley.

Just a reminder that Felicia Day is on Eureka on the SyFy channel tonight -

Even Jon Stewart could not resist the Buffyverse Magic -  fun find

I also saw one of the dailies for the cut scene from Dead Things. I thought that it was interesting that, before they got "started" JM asked SMG if she was ready. I can see why he did, of course, because in the position they were in, if she wasn't prepared, she could probably have gotten bruised, at the least.

OMG - I love the expression that JM did in the "you came back wrong" dailies.   Seeing these makes you realize how much physical work was involved with the Buffy and Spike characters - even with using stunt doubles, they still had to be involved in a big way with the actions of the fight scenes.

Emma Caulfeld  was so good  in their consolation sex scenes - it really comes through how both characters felt so miserable and lost -  JM was great with any character.  You forget how much Spike took the initiative in their sexual encounter - his "moving on" brings it all back to his reason for being at the Magic Shop - but like all fast remedies for healing or escape, they don't work.  After their immediate gratification/escape sex, they were still left with all their sorrow and pain and it all explodes in their faces by 10x.

I love when Spike tells Anya that Xander was a fool to leave her.  They problem was that Xander's leaving her had very little to do with her, it was all his own fears and insecurities that caused the fiasco of the wedding that never was.

I can't say that I approved of Buffy and Spike knocking the stuffing out of each other, but I don't believe that it merits the kind of response that some people have. What I do like is the exposition of their exchange. It's actually cathartic for both of them. They are obviously taking out their frustrations on each other, and since they both can take an extreme licking physically, I think in a way that its more like a couple of humans having an extreme pillow fight. It can be painful, but its certainly not on the scale of two people directly hitting each other.  Spike tells Buffy she came back wrong, which enrages her, and she mocks him with "Poor Spikey" and his own identity crisis.

Entropy is the episode when I would really like to thump Buffy. She is so hateful to Spike. I've posted a bunch of times how I will never understand how Buffy went from trying to let Spike down easy to ripping his heart out worse than she ever had, and when she really rubbed his nose in it how she now had her "friends" back, and therefore didn't "need" him anymore, I just want to reach in the tv and bop her "right up side her head." That isn't to give Spike a pass for his misdeeds in trying to manipulate Buffy more.

It was the one time that it finally did sink into Spike's very stubborn noggin that Buffy was through with him.

Yeah, looking at these scenes we can see how hard is the actor’s work – it is not easy to repeat one and the same quotes again and again. I remember JM said that they worked all day long about 12 hours daily and sometimes they had to shoot some scenes after the midnight and to start again in the next day at 6 am. In fact these actors had no time for their personal (social) lives.

Ha, ha so do I! And Xander is not exactly a fool, he is a big ugly douchebag! LOL  Fears?! Oh, come on! Anya was awesome woman, she was much more than a pathetic jerk like him ever deserves. And in the end when she died what that git said “That was my girl” and that was all… did he give his life for “his girl” as Spike did for Buffy?! Not at all! Wanker! Did I say Xander is everything that I despise and disgust in men?! LOL

Lulu, speaking about Buffy leaving Spike, I can understand her… I don’t defend her decision to leave him it was so sad moment for me to see Spike so ruined of her refusal – I have got some dailies from As You Were, a close up, where JM eyes are plenty with tears; I think it should have to be in the actual episode, I have no idea why they cut it off.

I think Buffy was in love with Spike, I’m even sure that she had some feelings for him from S4 (that’s why she wasn’t able to stake him). But he was a vampire, he was “everything that she was against for”. And don’t forget that she had a very bad experience with Angel before. And when she found out that Spike was keeping those dangerous demon eggs into the basement of his crypt (the same crypt that the made love) she was disguised of him, she had realized that he is as dangerous as Angel/Angelus was – “an evil soulless disgusting thing”. That’s why she broke up with him. She just didn’t know that he is so different than Angel. I think she had realized how different he was in the next season when he willingly got his soul for her. And then she started to trust him. The trust is the thing that she never gave to Angel.

Thanks for posting these! I have seen a few of them, but not all, I don't have time to watch them now (too busy catching up with the other discussions) but I will soon.

When Buffy broke up with Spike, I felt sorry for him, but Buffy was doing the right thing. Buffy faced up to the fact that she was using Spike, and she felt great guilt because that's not the behavior of a decent, caring human being. Spike understood that it was wrong intellectually, and there were times that he got frustrated because he wanted something more, but from his POV being "with" Buffy was worth the hit to his masculine pride-after all, he's the admitted Love's B@@@@.

Yes, as bad as that episode was with the "demon eggs," it was a wake up call for Buffy. After feeling humiliated when Riley caught her in the buff, and in the sack, with Spike, she decided to take responsibility for her bad decisions.  I hate how she hits on Spike, and I love how he calls her on it-"You know what I am. You've always known, and you come to me just the same." She knew he was telling the truth, and she knew what a hypocrite she was. Unfortunately her epiphany was short lived. She broke up with Spike, but she wasn't cold when she did it. She told him she was sorry, and she explained why she was doing it. She even called him William, and I don't think there could be any other reason for her doing that except to recognize that that there was a person in there. Spike was the blustering vampire-William was the still easily hurt person underneath, and I think that Buffy did have some concept of that, though not as much of one as she would have by the end of the series. When he showed up all blustery vamp at the ill fated wedding, Buffy was the sole of diplomacy, but it was genuine. She didn't mistreat Spike. She treated him with respect, and even admitted that it did bother her to see him with someone else, but he still understood that their physical relationship was over, and at that point it seemed that they were awkwardly making their way back to a friendship of sorts.

And, Spike was accepting it!!! That is what is one of the things that was so maddening to me about Buffy's treatment of Spike. She always had the keys to the kingdom, and I don't think she allowed herself to have a real grasp of that until after Spike came back with his soul.  After Spike realized the feelings that he had for Buffy, all Buffy really had to do was to treat Spike with respect. Not love, but respect. R E S P E C T-find out what it means to me. Spike basically told her that in the stair scene just before they faced Glory. Buffy was showing him respect-she was treating him like a man, like she would any adult human male, and he tried to tell her how much that meant to him, but he got rather over come with the emotion, so he just let what he was trying to say trail off and then changed the subject to the battle.

Spike honored Buffy's respect for him by staying and helping out with the ongoing demon fight and taking care of Dawn. When Buffy came back, Spike was still putty in her hands-until she changed the dynamic. She didn't mean to, but she needed to connect with someone, and that someone was Spike. She didn't want it to be him, so after she fell into the temptation of her physical attraction to him and her emotional need to have someone to confide in and be close to, she did the schizo thing and then pushed him away.
