PLEASE post any information and links for articles and analysis on either Buffy or Angel - especially any work regarding the TV Era - but we are looking for analysis of comic book series also.

Hoping to turn this into a good resource  for our members - there were some great analysis and meta during the TV Era that viewers who came to the series post TV Era, I think would enjoy and that gives a great history of the series from the perspective of the viewers.

Post both TV Era and the comic book season era - appreciate any help with this project.

Look forward to your help Jenifer - this is a project that I have been wanting to do for a long time.  Have a good trip and Peace and Love to you and your family and loved ones.

I thought these were interesting articles, and relevant to what's happening now in the Buffyverse.

This one could raise some Whedonite eyebrows, IMO.

I'm glad you enjoyed them, Jenifer 13. I found them while I was doing some research for analysis of Illyria.

I'm from Texas, and while we certainly have plenty of wealthy people in Texas, I never got the impression that Fred's family was wealthy, at all, but that they were a middle class, working family. Fred was so smart that she probably would have won at least a partial scholarship-but probably a full one-to college. If she was the valedictorian of her high school, she definitely would have received that-and I think we can possibly infer that Fred could have easily been the head of her class. According to the Buffyverse Dialogue Database, in the dialogue from the episode when we see Fred's parents the last time, they explain to Wesley that they have been saving up for years for their trip to Hawaii. Mr. Burkle may have had his own business of some kind, where he made enough money where Mrs. Burkle was able to stay home, because I always also had the impression that she was not supposed to be a wife who worked outside the home. I think we get a glimpse of Fred's "home" at the end of the episode where she dies, which is a very poignant, and definite tear-inducing moment if ever there was one, and from what little we are shown, it just looks like a typical US family home. In fact, I always thought that Fred's family was probably in the same social class as Buffy's. Until Buffy's mom died, Buffy was always shown, in terms of her "regular" lifestyle, to live a very comfortable life in a nice, comfy house where she had all her material needs met-but certainly not a mansion by any stretch of the imagination.

Wow, Lulurose, two really great articles!  I hadn't read the Battis/Slayage one, though I read Slayage a lot. It was so beautifully written, so dense with subject matter and he was so touchingly open about his own depression and other problems that it made we want to buy his book, which I will look for .  There were so many subjects to discuss in it, for example, poverty and wealth - the way Cordelia and Fred live out their privilege.  But I don't think they were privileged in the same way, though both seem to come from affluent families, Cordelia's family was really rich until the IRS caught up with them, which means they were basically crooks, and Fred's parents, although they can afford a trip abroad, and to send their daughter to a very good university,  aren't rich like Cordelia's were, or with a different attitude anyway...so much to think about.  Thank you for posting! I'm not up on the comics, waiting for the TPB's so i can't comment on what's happening in the Buffyverse - but I have read some fierce  criticism online -that Spike and Angel have become caricatures of themselves...I hope its not true.  I hope to find out soon...

Lulurose -

Thank you for posting the article links - I will read and then we can all discuss - I feel like I really need some Spike and Spuffy and Buffyverse Love right now.  I have to admit, that the last two issue of A&F have made me very sad - especially with a dark ff story that I read recently,  I am wanting very much to get a reminder of why I have such an admiration for the Buffyverse.

You're welcome, Cil. I hope that you enjoy them. The first one is basically a blog, while the second one is a complex, academic essay. They are both very informative. I also posted a link to another academic essay about Spike on the Everything Spike thread, if y'all haven't seen it yet.

Sorry, but I've not had a chance to read the articles yet - will get to at least one tonight and the other tomorrow.   One thing for sure, the Buffyverse and Angelverse have used women most cruelly in the sexual context.  And how they used poor Connor with Cordelia in the sexual relationship, that one is hard to take, but Connor connecting to Cordelia/Dark Cordy did work because he was so lost and in need of any kind of authority adult figure and connection with another person.  They really used Connor as a whipping post for Angel/Angelus and the victim symbol of endless violence and vengeance.
