Beyond Buffy

This is a group for all those great shows that we now love to watch that have the new vamps, aliens, or fantasy characters. Also, the place for "Castle" since Nathan Fillion is such a fan favorite and also for "Bones" who has a lot of Angel fans.

Roswell 1 Reply

One of my all-time favorite shows, Roswell used to air after Buffy.  Did anyone else watch it?  I am re-watching on Netflix and falling in love with it all over again :-)Continue

I am disappointed with Dominion as well - but if you think of the Angels at War and it's Milton pretty much all else has a long long way to go.  I've not watched the lastest episode yet - will probably catch it tonight.  I've been watching "Penny Dreadful" as catch-up on Showtime - it's a very dark but with a nice take back to the Gothic  penny dreadful novels period.  horror series and I am glad to see that Showtime has given it another season.  I'm a total Timothy Dalton fan and soon as I found out he was in this horror series, of course I started watching.  Hell, I even forked over my money for that terrible Scarletl series.  I have to say that He was very good as Rhett Butler.   Joanne Whalley was as poorly cast as Scarlett, IMO, as Reese Witherspoon was for Cecily Cardew.

I'm watching Defiance as well - not a great fan, but I do watch.

Robin Williams' death is a sadness. :(

In unrelated news, I am not feeling Dominion at all, though I am glad that Defiance is back on. Stahma love.

Thank You for posting the Robin Williams news and link for us.  I was sadden to learn he had been having such a difficult time with his depression and that he had also had such big problems with drugs.

Great Mork note - I love him in his Mrs. Doubtfire.

From an article- blog written by the young actresses in Mrs. Doubtfire - this is an excerpt - read the entire article here:

"And if you have someone in your life that you are grateful for – someone to whom you want to write another heartfelt, slanted, misspelled 'thank you' note – do it. Tell them they made you feel loved and supported. That they made you feel like you belonged somewhere and that you were not a freak."

Robin Williams, with whom Sarah Michelle Gellar co-starred in The Crazy Ones, just died...

Goodbye Mork!

Guess this new series Dominion is the replacement for Warehouse 13 -

At least we will have Anthony Head on a regular series again.  And Defiance returns in June as well.

I sure am going to miss Being Human USA - it was a predictable ending but still I like how the ended the series with the children taking on the names of Aidan and Sally.

Nadira reminds me very much of Sally.

A look at the new series that Anthony Head stars in - He sure has had a lot of success lately.  I've enjoyed all his projects with SyFy and I loved him in Dancing ON The Edge.  I hope this is a success for him.  We also have one of the cast of GOT as the leading female character.

Looks like yet another former BtVS stars, who is not James Marsters, has a new series.  Happy for Anthony Head, but how I would love to see James Marsters get another opportunity to show his acting skills in a TV series.

I decided to try out that series, Black Sails, to see if I liked it. I found that, for a show about pirates, that it really was relatively tame. It was actually less violent that True Blood, which I found really surprising, and pleasantly so. I find that I usually dislike these shows that are all about people shafting each other-often literally, and this one does have some of that, but it doesn't go overboard(no pun intended) It's historical fiction, with a combination of "real" pirates and fictitious ones. It's also supposed to be a prequel, of sorts, to the Robert Louis Stevenson book, Treasure Island-though it certainly strays in some pretty major ways from that story.

I don't know if this will be shown outside the US, and it won't be back on until 2015.

The NBC network here did it's own pirate yarn, called Crossbones. It stars John Malkovich. They put it off until the summer, but I thought that I'd try it out, too, to see how it compares to Black Sails.

Yes, that's something that they are good at doing, unfortunately. They are probably a channel that it's a good idea to watch the shows after they are finished, where at least you won't have any expectation of any further episodes because you already know its completed.

On a more upbeat note, here's some Dr. Who news.

Another of my favorite shows is being cancelled - SyFy seems to let go of there best shows, it seems, for always trying out new ones.  This is a nice Good Bye and Thank You from the cast.
