I was watching B,B,B, the other day and something occurred to me. Midway through the episode Giles yells at Xander and tells him that what he did was stupid, foolish and reckless. He rips in to Xander about as hard as he ever did. It got me thinking. It seemed like Xander took a lot bigger hit on a lot of issues then the girls. He made a mistake with magic and gets ripped a new one. 2 years later Willow does a spell blinding Giles, getting every demon in Sunnydale to hunt him down and making Buffy and Spike believe they were meant to be. What is her big punishment though. She makes Cookies and all is forgiven. In season 2 Xander stood on his own when it was time to kill Angelus. I know everyone chalks it up to jealousy but I don't buy that. When Giles tried to kill Angelus Buffy comforted him and held him hugging him but when Xander made that same suggestion they looked at him like he was a monster.
The other thing that pissed me off is till season 5 they really paid him no respect. He could bring Buffy back from the dead, save her from the fish team but he still got to be Angel's captive when Spike took the school and held him as bait. Angel punched him in the head when he was trying to fool Faith. The icing on the cake though was the Zeppo. Xander had by far earned his spot in the group and what was the term Buffy used. She said he needed to stay Frey adjacent. Everyone pushed him away thinking he was weak treating him like some kind of infant. If he had walked away from everyone of them and never looked back it would have been justified.
